Short Bio:
He completed his B.Sc. degree in Physics from the University of Athens in 1987 and his Ph.D. degree in Medical Physics from the Medical School of the University of Athens in 2000. During his Ph.D. thesis he was involved in tomographic image processing in the Nuclear Medicine department of the Hippokrateio General Hospital of Athens, as well in research projects concerning image processing and pattern recognition applications in medicine. He is Assistant Professor in the department of Biomedical Engineering of the Technological Educational Institute of Athens in the field of Image and Signal Processing Programming. Furthermore, he has been teaching during several years in postgraduate programs organised by the Technological Educational Institute of Athens and the University of Patras on the fields of medical statistics, pattern recognition and biomedical signal and image processing. Dr. Kalatzis has 52 publications in scientific journals with impact factor, 100 publications in international and national conferences, 1 book and 2 book chapters, with over 450 citations (h=11). He is the author of the book "Algorithmic programming in MATLAB environment". Dr. Kalatzis's research interests include medical image and signal processing and analysis, with focus in the field of pattern recognition, in collaboration with the Medical Image and Signal Processing Laboratory and with the Biosignal Acquisition Laboratory, both in the Medical Instruments Technology department, TEI of Athens.
