Short Bio:
Georgia Oikonomou studied medicine (1981) and received her PhD degree (1993) from the Medical School of the University of Athens, Greece. Completed her training in Radiology in 1987 (Athens). From 1986 to 1998 she worked in the UK in NHS hospital appointments. Became a fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR, 1991) and was appointed as Clinical Research Fellow in Computed Tomography and Bone Densitometry (Department of Radiology, Medical School, University of Manchester, 1991-1993). She continued as a part time lecturer of the above for the remainder of her stay in the UK in parallel with her hospital jobs. Returned to Greece in 1998 and worked as general Radiologist in several posts. She was appointed as an Application Professor in the Department of Radiography, Faculty of Health and Caring Professions, Technological Educational Institute of Athens (2000) and continues as an Associate Professor (2009) covering a wide range of subjects in Radiodiagnosis. She holds a part time research post in the Unit of Radiology Research of the University of Athens (Evgenidion Hospital) since 2004. Her interests include US, CT, MRI and Mammography. She has published medical papers as well as conference proceedings.
