| Vangelis Karkaletsis is a Research Director at the National Center for Scientific Research (NCSR) "Demokritos", and head of the Software and Knowledge Engineering Laboratory of the Institute of Informatics and Telecommunications. He has a Diploma in Engineering from the University of Patras, Department of Computer Engineering & Informatics, an MSc in Advanced Methods in Computer Science from the University of London, Queen Mary & Westfield College, and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Athens, Department of Computer Science. His research interests lie in the areas of Language and Knowledge Engineering, as applied to information filtering and extraction, natural language generation, knowledge discovery, ontology engineering, personalization. Dr. Karkaletsis has coordinated or participated in several national and international RTD projects. He has organised or has been committee member of many workshops and conferences and was the local Chair of the 12th Conference of the European Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics (EACL-09), and the co-chair of the 6th Hellenic Conference on Artificial Intelligence (SETN-2010). He has served for many years in the board of the Greek Artificial Intelligence Society (EETN), the last two (2006-2008) as a vice-chair. He is co-founder of the spin-off company ‘i-sieve’ technologies. |
