Short Bio:
George Georgakilas completed his studies at the Computer Engineering Department at the University of Patras in 2009, while during his studies, he cooperated with a research team at the BRFAA institute in order to analyze DNA sequences of drosophila melanogaster (February-April 2006).
In 2012 he received his Masters Degree from the Interdisciplinary Postgraduate Program "Information Technologies in Medicine and Biology" and his thesis primary objective was the development of an algorithm that predicts microRNA transcription start sites by using Next Generation Sequencing data.
Currently (from March 2012) he is a PhD candidate at the Department of Computer & Communication Engineering at the University of Thessaly.
Mr. Georgakilas is since 2010 a member of Prof. Artemis Hatzigeorgiou (Diana Lab), at the research center Alexander Fleming. During this time, he 's been involved in cutting edge research projects involving micorRNAs and their role in gene expression and cell homeostasis.
